RE: Thanksgiving Plans

Has anyone tried to cook a turkey breast in the crock pot?
This sounds like a grea idea! Do you leave it on high? Low? A combination? Do you cook it in anything?
Thanks!!:)
I cook it on high. If your crockpot it one that gets really hot than I'd turn it down for a while. It comes out almost off the bones and is really tender and moist. I've had good luck with the turkey breasts that I've made in my oval crockpot. All good white meat.

RE: Thanksgiving Plans

Has anyone tried to cook a turkey breast in the crock pot? I've made several that way. I just put a rub of butter and salt on it, put it in the crock pot and cook for about 6 hours. It comes out tender and almost falls apart. Lots of leftovers. I also make stuffing with the boxed stuffing mix (per directions on box) and equal amount of mashed potatoes (I add some dried onion, also I use instant prepared per directions sometimes). Mix the two and reheat in the micro. Makes a great potato/bread stuffing. You can make a gravy from the drippings in the crock pot or opt for a jar from the grocery store. The sweet potatoes can be baked the day before(or bought in a can), peeled when cool and put in a casserole with all the fixings (I use butter, brown sugar and cinnamon)and heated in the micro. The veggies can also be heated in the micro (I use glass dishes so they can be put in the oven). Use your oven for keeping things warm. You can make a great thanksgiving feast with all the trimmings and still have leftovers this way.

RE: cell phone alaska

We spent 8 days in Alaska last summer and traveled in a rental car around that darker area seen on a previous post. We had no trouble using our ATT cell phone. Good service. We were in Alaska several years ago when our cell was Cingular. Called them before our trip and they said that if when making a call check for the icon on your phone to see if it showed roaming, if so walk to another area or turn around till the icon is gone before making your call. Will save you the extra charge. This past summer we did not have to do that, all calls were on our service.

RE: Planning a trip to Amish Country next year help

We live about 1 1/2 hrs away from Lancaster. It is beautiful country side with lots of farms. It is really neat to see the horse drawn plows in action. Also sunday you will see lots of church going amish. The black wagons are all over the roads. It is nice to see the kids going and coming from their schools. There are lots of retail shops to go to and great restaurants. You will find all the crafts that the amish are famous for in many locations. The outlets are there to shop if you like that. We love to go antiquing and find new restaurants to try. The one that is a large buffet is called Shady Maple. It is located between Goodville and Blue Ball on rte 23 at rte 897. You will be able to taste all the dutch foods that the amish are famous for. Remember that the amish do not work on sundays so this restaurant and all the other amish and menonite businesses are closed on sundays. The amish farmhouse is very educational and the Dutch Wonderland is a young childs delight. It is located on Rte 30. We haven't camped in the area since our children were young so I can't help you out with campgrounds but there are plenty of them around. The strasburg railroad is interesting and you can even go on a trip that you will be able to order lunch. The grandkids loved that. Remember to take a ride in the farm country. A store called Goods is right next to Shady Maple and has everything you can think about from clothing to yard and garden equipment. It is the type of store that the amish shop at and will be a very interesting stop after a large dinner at Shady Maple. Fall is a beautiful time of year in the area. Leaves are usually at there peak in mid October. Weather is usually cool nights (40's) and warm afternoons (60's 70's). Hope we have helped you in your planning....Lots of luck.

RE: Cedar Creek 5th Wheel

We have an 06 CC and love it. We are snowbirds and live in it for 4-5 months a year. We find it very reliable and comfortable. It travels so well on the road and would go back and buy our next 5th wheel from CC. No complaints. Factory support and service is excellent. Lots of luck...

RE: Pa to Fl...which routes

We have a 5th wheel that is rather heavy also. We live in N E PA and go to central FL every year. We use I 78 to I81 S to 17 then to 95. We have had no problems with any of the mountains and find the traffic ok. We enter 95 at Fredericksburg, VA....avoiding Phila, Baltimore and DC. Have a safe trip....

RE: Best Route From Dutchess Co., NY To Orlando, Fla

I agree that 81 to 17 to 95 the best route. You will avoid Phila, Baltimore, DC and the roads are good and 17 rather scenic. Nice when the leaves are turning.

RE: Campground in Jacksonville, Fl. ?

Pecan Park RV Resort is right off I 95 in Jacksonville. It is next to a Flea Market and the airport is near by. During the day you can hear the planes overhead but they close the airport at night and there is no noise then. They have concrete slabs (all pull thrus) for your RV, full hook ups and nice concrete picnic tables. It is an overnite spot for us as we travel to our winter resort in central FL. Hope this helps you....

RE: help! how to tie down 5th wheel for for Hurricane Ike

Was wondering how you made out in the hurricane. Let us know. We saw a lot on the news and know that a lot of people are not back in their homes. If you are safe and sound let us know. We are always thinking of our RVers and their safety. That was quite some hurricane and lots of damage. Hope you are safe.

RE: help! how to tie down 5th wheel for for Hurricane Ike

If you decide not to move your 5th wheel, anchor it as best you can and make sure that you go to a shelter. The storm could be life threatening. You can always replace your RV. Take care of yourself and all your documents, valuables and personal keepsakes. They will all be destroyed if the storm takes the RV. Better if you can move it to safer ground. Good Luck !

RE: What to look for in a full time RV spot?

Size of site. concrete or macadem driveway; trees too low for 5er (but nice for shade); where are the hook-ups?, is there 50amp hookup?; is your site on a busy road?; is there a pool?, how close?, is it heated?; is there a rec hall?; where are the shower/bathrooms?; is there an extra parking area? where?; what planned activities do they offer?; how close to grocery stores, malls, community activities?; what are the camping fees?; any restrictions on pets?; Is it a 55 and older park?; can you have guests and what is the fee?; is there cable/internet hookups? what is the charge?; is it a gated park?; do you have a picnic table?; do they have a laundramat?; do they allow golf carts?; do they cut the grass?; These are just a FEW helpful hints. Have fun ! ! !

RE: Convenience Food

Sams Club has salmon that is indivually packaged and thaws in water in a few minutes. Great on foil that is sprayed with pam and then sprayed on top and wrapped and put on the grill or george forman. While it is cooking (10min) make minute rice in the micro. (8 min) and slice some tomatoes for a side. Quick, fresh and no mess. I sometimes put the salmon in the fridge in the am to thaw for dinner.

RE: pots and pans

Types of pots and pans depends on your kind of RVing. If your trips are long term or weekend. We are snowbirds and find that regular kitchen type pots are more desirable verses the stacking type that are made of a lighter material. We have done both types of RVing over the years and it depends on you style of cooking and the length of time that you are using your unit. We cook much like we do at home while gone for the winter. When we did the vacation and weekend camping and some on the camp fire the nesting pots were great. We gave them to our daughter and they love them for their weekend trips. We enjoy the set that we got from Kmart (Martha Stewart). Just get the type that suits you personal needs and you will be happy.

RE: beacon campground in PA

If you want to see them working in the field try spring or harvest time. You'll always see the farmers working somewhat. The horse drawn plows are neat to watch. It is amish country and they are all over the place. Get off the beaten path and travel on the back roads to see the real thing. We get there several times a year as we don't live too far from the Lancaster area. Eating is a joy and the hills and valleys are beautiful. There are a lot of tourist traps with chinese junk to buy. Just keep your eyes open and enjoy....

RE: Solution for uncomfortable bar on sofa bed

We purchased a board from one of the catalogs you get in the mail that offer all kinds of things for the home. It is a reinforced type of man made material that folds for storage, does not weigh a lot and you place it under the mattress when you have the bed pulled out for use. After use it can be stored on the floor under the sofa. It cost about $20. We have used it about 2yrs and find it does the trick. Can't remember the name of the catalog but have seen it in several catalogs. Hometrends may be one that offers it.

RE: Myakka State Park, Florida? Airboat ride??

Been there about 4 times. We love the park and totally enjoy the air boat ride. If you are lucky you'll see lots of alligators. We found that the late morning and early afternoon trips had more alligator activity. Never minded the noise. It is a large airboat. The narration is great. You'll enjoy the park and boat ride.

RE: Garmin GPS ?

Thanks everyone for the help in our search for a GPS. We decided on the Garmin Nuvi 255W. It seems that the 260W is being discontinued and this is the replacement. We will have to learn to use it properly. We were told that the industry has discontinued offering the truck/bus feature because of lawsuits. It seems that the overpasses have caused some problems as the features cannot determine the height of them and can cause problems. We got all the other features that were important to us and some extras.
